“Rugby is one of the most popular sports in Sri Lanka and we’re happy to support the Sri Lanka Super 7's 2016.

This event has become one of the most exciting events of the Rugby Calendar and has provided some great rugby to fans who thronged Racecourse Grounds”, said Commercial Credit’s Chief Operating Officer Mr. Rajiv Casie Chitty.

The Sri Lanka International Rugby 7’s is an annual international rugby 7’s tournament played since late nineties.

The tournament originally developed as the Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7’s.

National men's teams from Asia and Europe were regular competitors.

In 2009 the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union conducted the event in a different format, similar to the IPL.

This was the first time a rugby tournament was conducted with teams managed by the Franchisees.

This added glamour to the tournament.

World renowned Seven’s Rugby players such as Wasisale Serevi (Fiji), Ben Gollings (British), D. J. Fobes (New Zealand), William Rider (Fiji), Charles Piutau (New Zealand), Waisake Naholo (New Zealand), Amasio Valence (New Zealand) and Osea Kolinisau (Fiji) played in these tournaments.

With the introduction of Rugby Sevens to the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 2016, Sevens has become the number one fastest growing game in the world.
