Iggy Azalea Beats Out Eminem And Drake To Win Her First Awards Ever At The 2014 AMAs

Iggy Azalea went into the 2014 American Music Awards with six nominations, two of which were in the hip-hop categories, and she definitely came out on top.

The New Classic rapper was pitted against Drake and Eminem (whom she exchanged words with, this past week) for Favorite Hip-Hop Album and Favorite Artist. She took home both trophies, making this her first award show win ever, despite being nominated for several awards at the 2014 VMAs.

The Australia native was accompanied to the stage by her mentor, T.I. — who’s been there to help her out in some sticky situations — to accept both awards.

First, she grabbed Favorite Hip Hop Album, accepting the award saying, “This award is the first award I’ve ever won in my entire life, and it means so much to me that it’s for Best Hip-Hop because that’s what inspired me to move to America and pursue my dreams,” she told the audience.

“It’s what helped me, when I was a teenager, to escape and get through my life and to better times. It means so much that I can stand here against Eminem and Drake and come out with this — it’s amazing,” she added. “Thank you so much to T.I. for believing in me.”

During her second trip to the stage to accept Favorite Hip-Hop Artist, she thanked label executives and fans. Check out her emotional speech in the video above.
