Sweeps up top awards at the national event for software products.

It was a victorious night for 99X Technology at the National Best Quality ICT Awards (NBQSA) 2014 as it was honoured with top accolades at the prestigious event, in recognition of its drive for excellence and innovation in software products.

In its second year of participation in Sri Lanka’s only national event dedicated to recognising talented individuals and innovation in software products in the local ICT industry, 99X Technology first received the Gold Award in the ‘Media and Entertainment’ category for the mobile app ‘Televisionary’. ‘Televisionary’ was then adjudged second to only one product in all the categories among 47 commercial products built by Sri Lanka’s top IT entities, when it received the Overall Silver Award of the night.

“At 99X Technology, we strive to foster a culture that encourages innovation, a challenging culture, the game-changer mind-set, constant experimentation, open dialog on failures and hyper-specialization, and it is truly a tribute to the success of our innovation and our people that we have been honoured with top awards,” commented 99X Technology CEO Mano Sekaram.

‘Televisionary’ is a TV show tracking app built by 99X Technology available on Android and Windows Phone, which comes with a vast array of features. Adding on preferred shows, viewing episode guides and news about favourite actors and actresses, viewing trailers, discovering people with similar tastes and following them, ‘shouting’ out your comments, receiving alerts just before a loved show is about to start – all this and more are available at users’ fingertips, providing them with the ultimate TV show tracking experience.

The app was initially developed by four company interns and 10 university undergraduates as their student projects, and a group of innovative young minds within the company worked on it continuously following the initial development. Amongst others, they are currently working on releasing the iOS version of the app. ‘Televisionary’ was also nominated for Best Mobile Application at the World Summit Awards this year, in the m-Entertainment & Lifestyle category.

“It was the determination and dedication of this group of employees that opened up the path for this accolade,” stated Technical Architect and Head of Development Dileepa Jayathilaka. ‘Televisionary’ has now been selected for APICTA, the premier IT awards in the Asia Pacific, where it feature alongside the best and most innovative software products in the region.
