Aviation fuel filtration unit was declared open by Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Arjuna Ranatunga.
Chairman of the CPC and CPSTL Dammika Ranatunga stated that according to the Joint Inspection Group (JIG) reports, Sri Lanka has achieved ‘GOOD’ position in supply of aviation fuel and they would be able to rise in to “EXCELLENT’ position by this project.
Joint Inspection Group is a internationally accepted institution which is mainly functioning to inspect standard methods and quality tests of pumping aviation fuel.
Several times, JIG has recommended the requirement of aviation fuel filtration unit in Sri Lanka.
Following the recommendation, even documentations has completed in 2001, it was initiated under the advice of Minister Arjuna Ranatunga and Chairman Dammika Ranatunga in June, 2017. Addressing the ceremony, Chairman Dammika Ranatunga stated that they will be able to save between 2- 3 Lakhs US Dollars by one vessel of aviation fuel.
“There was no aviation fuel filtration unit to pump fuel in to train tanks in Kolonnawa.
CPSTL had to state in the documents about unavailability of aviation fuel filtration unit when they prepared specifications.
Following this, we had to import aviation fuel for higher price, because suppliers had offered higher bids to supply aviation fuel.
We do not further require to import aviation fuel for higher prices, now.
We will be able to call competitive prices to import aviation fuel, now.
It saves 3 Lakhs US Dollars by one vessel of aviation fuel.
We would be able to confirm the quality of the aviation fuel and we would be able to obtain huge monetary profits by this” Chairman Dammika Ranatunga added further.
Aviation fuel filtration unit was constructed by Engineers of CPSTL and they did complete it few days before the scheduled period.
Parallel to this unit, two pumps with the capacity of 136 Cubic Meter per hour has installed.
CPSTL stated that they will be able to speed up the filling than earlier because of new pumps.
