The University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) marked the ceremonial launch of Value Masters 2025 on July 25, officially kicking off Sri Lanka’s premier inter-university equity valuation competition.

Held at the Senate Boardroom, the event brought together a distinguished audience of academics, finance professionals, and undergraduates from institutions across the country.

Organized by the Students’ Association of Finance (SAF) of the Department of Finance, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce (FMSC), the competition is conducted in collaboration with the CFA Society Sri Lanka and Acuity Knowledge Partners—two leading institutions committed to advancing finance education and industry engagement in Sri Lanka.

Mr. Rusiru Nishshanka, President of SAF, warmly welcomed the gathering, setting a positive tone for the event and expressing enthusiasm for the journey ahead with Value Masters 2025.

Prof. Dushan Jayawickrama, Dean of FMSC, addressed the audience, reaffirming the faculty’s commitment to producing graduates equipped with both sound theoretical foundations and strong practical competencies.

He acknowledged the importance of platforms like Value Masters in enhancing the employability and industry readiness of finance undergraduates.

Ms. Rashmi Peiris Paranavitane, CFA, President of CFA Society Sri Lanka, delivered a motivational message encouraging students to pursue excellence through ethical decision-making and analytical rigor.

She emphasized CFA Society Sri Lanka’s continued support for initiatives that promote professional development and integrity in finance.

Mr. Nuwan Jayawardana, CFA, Director and Sri Lanka Head of Buy Side Research at Acuity Knowledge Partners, delivered a compelling speech on the importance of hands-on experience in equity research.

He described Value Masters as a unique opportunity for students to simulate the work of real-world investment analysts and deepen their understanding of valuation techniques.

Dr. Neelangie Nanayakkara, Head of the Department of Finance, extended her gratitude to the competition’s partners—CFA Society Sri Lanka and Acuity Knowledge Partners—for their continued support and collaboration.

She acknowledged their vital role in enhancing the learning experience of students and strengthening the department’s efforts to bridge academia and industry.

The competition structure was formally announced during the event.

Participants will compete across three progressive rounds : a mini case study submission in July, an equity valuation report submission in August, and the final presentation round in September.

The competition is designed to test participants’ financial analysis skills, research capability, and presentation effectiveness.

To reward excellence, cash prizes of Rs. 100,000, Rs. 75,000, and Rs. 50,000 will be awarded to the top three teams.

Value Masters 2025 is not only the first dedicated inter-university equity valuation competition in Sri Lanka, but also a platform that aspires to groom the next generation of investment analysts and valuation experts.

By encouraging critical thinking, rigorous research, and industry exposure, the competition aligns academic goals with industry expectations.
