IASL Hosts 16th NAFLIA Conference Driving Growth in a New World of Insurance

The Insurance Association of Sri Lanka (IASL), through its Marketing and Sales Forum, hosted the 16th consecutive NAFLIA Conference at the Monarch Imperial.

This landmark event continues to play a critical role in developing and recognising the professionalism of life insurance advisors in the country, reaffirming IASL’s ongoing commitment to elevating industry standards and upholding excellence within the life insurance sector.


This year’s conference was held under the theme “Drivers of Change: Driving Growth in a New World of Insurance.”


The event focused on the evolving role of life insurance advisors in a rapidly transforming industry landscape strengthened by technological advancement, shifting customer expectations, demographic changes, regulatory reforms and dynamic market trends.


It was emphasized that agents must move beyond adaptation to lead transformative change, proactively embracing innovation, upskilling digitally and delivering customer-centric solutions to build trust and long-term impact.


Over 700 attendees participated in the event, including representatives from the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (IRCSL), members of IASL, CEOs of leading insurance companies, advisors, team members and other key stakeholders in the industry.


The conference created a valuable platform for sharing insights, exploring challenges and collectively shaping the future of life insurance in Sri Lanka.


Among the highlights of the event was the keynote speech delivered by Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) and Chairman, Dr. Asanga Ranasinghe, who shared thought-provoking perspectives on the opportunities presented in the sector with dynamic demographic and technological changes, demanding leadership, growth and transformation in the space.


The conference also featured addresses by the Director General of IRCSL, Damayanthi Fernando, who stated,


“Life insurance advisors are vital partners in building financial resilience and trust. Platforms like NAFLIA play a key role in recognizing excellence, encouraging continuous learning and preparing professionals to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.


We commend the IASL and the MSF for organising this year’s event under a pertinent theme and look forward for more collaborations to reduce the protection gap in Sri Lanka.”


Also speaking at the event, the President of IASL, Lasitha Wimalaratne, emphasized the importance of resilience, innovation and continuous professional development in navigating the future of the industry.


Reflecting on the significance of the event, Lasitha Wimalaratne stated


“The life insurance industry is undergoing a profound transformation and at the heart of this change are our advisors.


At IASL, we believe in empowering them with vision and leadership. NAFLIA 2025 proves our commitment to developing future-ready professionals who will drive sustainable growth and redefine the value of life insurance in Sri Lanka.”


A major attraction of NAFLIA 2025 was the prestigious Awards ceremony, which celebrated excellence and outstanding contributions within the life insurance sector.


Among the top awardees were E. Thuvaraga from AIA, who was named Best Bancassurance Sales Officer winning a Gold Award in the National Category and Tharmarajasingan Gokularamanan from Union Assurance, who received the Gold Award for Best Bancassurance Sales Supervisor/Team Leader in the National Category.


S. Dharshan from Ceylinco Life was recognized as the Best Branch Manager taking home a Gold Award in the National Category, while R.P. Edirisinghe, also from Ceylinco Life, received the Gold Award for Best Supervisor in the National Category.


The title of Best Advisor was awarded to A.S. Hettiarachchi, once again representing Ceylinco Life clinching the Gold Award in the National Category.


The Marketing and Sales Forum of the Insurance Association of Sri Lanka play a key role in conceptualising, planning, and executing initiatives that promote public engagement and awareness around insurance.


This includes leading campaigns for Insurance Awareness Month, as well as organising major calendar events such as the NAFLIA Conference, all aimed at elevating the visibility and understanding of insurance across the country.


The success of NAFLIA 2025 emphasizes IASL’s commitment to nurturing leadership, encouraging innovation and raising the standards of professionalism within the life insurance industry.


As the industry continues to evolve, forums such as NAFLIA play a vital role in ensuring that Sri Lanka’s insurance professionals are equipped to lead the way forward.
