The Maju Group of Malaysia entered into a joint collaboration arrangement with the Ministry of Transport of Sri Lanka.

This was pursuant to visits by officials of the Ministry of Transport of Sri Lanka to Malaysia with a view to studying various modalities to transform the public transportation infrastructure in Sri Lanka.

An exchange of documents formalizing this joint collaboration arrangement was signed by The Hon. Secretary of the Ministry of Transport of Sri Lanka, Mr. DammikaPerera and Mr. RoslanShariff, the Managing Director of MajuTMAS, a member of the Maju Group of Companies.

The joint collaboration is based on a platform for technology transfer and shared experience and expertise. These services offered to the Sri Lankan Government by the Maju Group is on a pro bono basis. The event was witnessed by The Hon. Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, and Tan Sri Abu Sahid Mohamed, the Group Executive Chairman of the Maju Group.

Tun Mahathir was in Colombo to deliver a Keynote Address at the Hambantota Conclave Business Seminar.

Mr. RoslanShariffsaid that MajuTMAS had been operating and managing the Integrated Transportation Hub which was conceptualised, designed, constructed and managed by the Maju Group for the MalaysianGovernment in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur.

The success of the Transportation Hub in Kuala Lumpur had realized the Government’s objective of easing the traffic congestion in the city centre.

The Hub converges long-haul buses into this Terminal, which is at the periphery of the City. The Terminal hosts a multimodal means of transportation, comprising the urban and sub-urban trains, intra-city buses and taxis.

This Terminal is an integral part of the city’s public transportation network. The state-of-the-art design and facilities at the Terminal that the Maju Group built are akin to those of a modern airport.

The signature services that were installed include systems for central e-ticketing, an ultra-modern public information facility, a building management system, centralised bus number plate recognition and tracking, monitoring and managing, and centralised vehicle emission management.

The Maju Group had also innovated by way of developing smart-phone applications for fast and reliable reservation, ticketing and boarding. All these are home-grown and are proprietary to the Maju Group.

The facilities offered at this Terminal has attracted the interest of many countries, namelyFrance, Australia, Indonesia, Sudan, Iran, Philippines and Thailand.

The passenger throughput is 45,000 passengers per day, and with the integrated system there is a safe and secure environment for commuters. The problem of touting has been eliminated.

This modern Integrated Transportation hub is the brainchild of Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamed. Maju takes pride in having had a hand in realizing Tun Dr. Mahathir’s aspirations and dreams. Today, the Maju Group is exporting Tun Dr. Mahathir’s vision beyond the shores of Malaysia.
