CRIB Becomes Corporate Partner of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka

The Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka (CRIB) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), becoming its first Corporate Partner for 2026.

This partnership marks the launch of BASL’s newly introduced Corporate Partner Scheme and aims to equip the legal fraternity with a deeper understanding of the importance of maintaining a strong credit profile and score, as well as the role of the Secured Transactions Registry (STR) in enhancing credit flow within the economy.

The partnership was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the BASL Secretariat.

The event was attended by CRIB Director/ General Manager Mr. Pushpike Jayasundera, CRIB Deputy General Manager Mr. Janaka Lakmal, CRIB Manager – Legal Ms. Saumya Wijesinghe BASL President Mr. Rajeev Amarasuriya, BASL Treasurer Mr. Pasindu Silva, along with other office bearers and officials from both organisations.

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka represents over 26,000 legal professionals across 93 regional branches, providing a strong national platform to engage legal practitioners islandwide.

Through this partnership, CRIB and BASL will jointly conduct in-person awareness programmes and webinars focusing on the importance of credit information systems, CRIB services, and the Secured Transactions Registry (STR) while educating stakeholders on the importance of maintaining a sound credit profile to facilitate easier access to credit.

Speaking at the event, CRIB Director/ General Manager Mr. Pushpike Jayasundera highlighted the importance of the partnership in strengthening awareness and understanding within the legal sector on matters relating to credit information and secured transaction registry.

“CRIB has entered into this corporate partnership with the Bar Association of Sri Lanka with the objective of enhancing financial and credit literacy within the legal sector, in line with CRIB’s core mandate of promoting credit inclusivity.

CRIB also intends to educate legal professionals on the use of credit information and credit scores, to better understand and manage the credit standing of individuals and corporates, as well as to raise awareness on the Secured Transactions Registry and its functions,” he stated.

BASL President Mr. Rajeev Amarasuriya stated that the Corporate Partner Scheme reflects BASL’s commitment to engaging with diverse sectors and collaborating on initiatives of mutual benefit, particularly those that contribute to the development of a more informed and future-ready legal profession.

The inclusion of CRIB as BASL’s first Corporate Partner underscores BASL’s efforts to foster knowledge-sharing partnerships that contribute to professional excellence, while reinforcing CRIB’s mandate to promote credit inclusivity, transparency, and informed financial decision-making across key professional sectors in Sri Lanka.

Established by the Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka Act No. 18 of 1990 as amended by Act No. 8 of 1995 and 42 of 2008, CRIB is the first credit bureau in the South Asian region.

An initiative of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Finance, the Bureau serves as the national repository of credit information for all borrowers, delivering a range of value-added services that facilitate faster and more affordable access to credit, thereby enhancing financial inclusion for all citizens.
