IBM has collaborated with the bank to make wrist-bound banking a reality marking the first app capable of such a feat on the market.
Those with the Nationwide app on their Android smartphones will be able to get real-time updates on their account via the Android Wear smartwatch.
The app is available for download from the Google Play Store. Users can make payments, transfer money, amange their over drafts and open new accounts on the devices.
Tony Prestedge, chief operating officer at Nationwide, said: “Providing customers with a variety of ways to manage their money, whenever and how ever they want is a priority for us.
“Giving those members who want and have the technology the ability to check their balance on their watch provides them with even more choice as to how they interact with us whether it is online, through an app, face-to-face or over the phone. Our customers have the peace of mind that they can do business with us on their terms, not ours.”
More apps will be adapted to communicate with smart watches following the prediction from CCS Insight that smartwatches will out sell tablets by 2018.
