Sri Lanka to Host ABU 2026 A Landmark Win for Asia Pacifics Biggest Media Summit

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) is pleased to announce that the ABU General Assembly 2026 will be hosted by The Maharaja Media Network, which is owned and operated by The Capital Maharaja Group.

The event will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, bringing together senior executives, broadcasters, media experts, and international partners from across the Asia-Pacific and beyond.

The ABU General Assembly is the Union’s flagship annual event, providing a strategic platform for its over 220 members in 60+ countries to discuss global media trends, technological innovation, sustainability, capacity-building, and the evolving role of public-interest media.


The 2026 edition will mark a significant milestone by returning to Sri Lanka, a country with a rich cultural heritage and an active contributor to ABU initiatives.

The Maharaja Media Network comprises of MBC and MTV- long-standing and influential ABU members - will serve as the official host organisations.


Known for its leadership in journalism, innovation, and community service, the Group has been instrumental in strengthening regional cooperation and promoting high-quality media in South Asia.

Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams Sri Lanka will serve as the Official Hospitality Partner for the 2026 ABU General Assembly, with the venue hosting key conference sessions and delegate engagements.


Its integrated event spaces and modern facilities will support the
organisational and operational requirements of the Assembly, providing a cohesive setting for meetings, discussions, and related programme activities.


The partnership positions the venue as a central hub for one of the region’s significant MICE gatherings.

The event will also include networking opportunities, bilateral meetings, and cultural activities showcasing Sri Lanka’s heritage.
