Currently, Sustainability Labs remains focused on Events and industries that aspire to create better, eco-friendly events, both in the physical and online world.
The team works closely with clients to develop a comprehensive sustainability strategy that focuses on transforming an event’s sustainability aspects into achievable goals that deliver outstanding results.
In the future, Sustainability Labs expects to explore local and regional opportunities in sustainability and to adopt data-driven sustainability solutions.
Based in Battaramulla, Sustainability Labs was co-founded in the middle of a pandemic by Rashmi Wickramaratne and Achala Fernando together with the team’s Project Lead Shani Weerasinghe.
Both co-founders started their entrepreneurial journey by creating two separate startups – The Sustainability Agency founded by Achala and azolabs founded by Rashmi.
The two dynamic individuals realized that their sustainability-focused ventures would have a far greater chance of making a positive, meaningful impact if they worked together and therefore they joined forced to create Sustainability Labs.
By tapping into their knowledge acquired through their extensive qualifications and their in-depth understanding of all things related to sustainability, the trio is confident of demonstrating how Sri Lankan organizations can embrace sustainability in their day-to-day operations.
Rashmi Wickramaratne possesses a Masters in Environment Management from the University Of Colombo and a B.Sc. (Honours) Applied Sciences (extended year in Microbiology) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Achala Fernando has completed a BEng (Honours) Civil & Construction Engineering at Curtin University, Australia and an MSc Financial Mathematics (Reading) at the University of Colombo.
Both have completed various ISO Consultant Development Programmes at the National Cleaner Production Centre that has further enhanced their knowledge and expertise in their field.
