30 Days of Akuru Invites Artists Worldwide to Celebrate Sri Lankan Letterforms

Akuru Collective, a collective of people coming together to inspire interest in letterform and typography, launches its 7th edition of the ‘30 Days of Akuru’ challenge, an initiative exploring the artistic boundaries of Sinhala and Tamil letterforms.

Scheduled for October 1st through 30th, 2025, this annual event invites letterform enthusiasts worldwide, including designers, illustrators, typographers, and writers, to submit their unique interpretations of the Sri Lankan letterforms.

Since its inception in 2019, 30 Days of Akuru has grown into a vibrant community project, inspiring thousands to experiment and push the limits of Sinhala and Tamil script design.

Through this challenge, Akuru Collective strives to inspire the growth of typographic arts in Sri Lanka by offering participants an opportunity to express their cultural roots through individual artistic styles.

Commenting on the initiative, Vihanga Samaradiwakara, Founder and Community Manager of 30 Days of Akuru, stated,

“We started the 30 Days of Akuru challenge to offer letter enthusiasts a chance to explore their talent while honouring Sri Lankan heritage.

What began as a local passion project has now grown into a global movement, connecting artists worldwide who share a deep love for letterforms.

We are driven by the increasing submissions this year and aim to create more opportunities for engagement and collaboration, ensuring our letterforms continue to inspire generations ahead.”

Building on Vihanga’s thoughts on the challenge, Pathum Egodawatta, Co-founder of Akuru Collective, shared,

“Through this initiative, Akuru Collective continues to build on a network of a community, and the beauty of this initiative is how it invites everyone, from seasoned artists to beginners, to explore letterforms in their own way.

This challenge isn’t just about perfect letterforms; it’s about personal expression and the joy of creating together.”

Akuru Collective invites all artists, designers, and letterform enthusiasts to partake in the 30 Days of Akuru challenge.
