CIPM Awarded ISO 14001 2015 Environmental Management System Certification


CIPM Sri Lanka – the Nation’s leader in human resource management was recently recognized and awarded the prestigious ISO 14001:2015 Certification for its Environmental Management System (EMS) by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) on 17th July 2020 at a ceremony at The Water’s Edge, Colombo.

The Certificate was handed over to Dhammika Fernando-Immediate Past President, CIPM Sri Lanka by Dr. Siddhika G. Senaratne-Director General, Sri Lanka Standards Institution.


CIPM is the only organization in the HR education sector to be awarded the EMS certification.


The certification recognizes that CIPM Sri Lanka has initiated and is maintaining its operational activities in an environmental friendly manner as per the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) guidelines and recommendations.


The ISO 14001:2015 is a globally accredited certification which is granted for companies and organizations that manage and minimize environmental impacts from operational process activities.


This certification encourages to control and reduce adverse environmental impacts and improve organizational environmental performances.


The certification serves to encourage sustainable business practices, providing a unifying basis for environmental compliance through regulations and environmental standards.


“Obtaining this ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System certification underscores our desire as well as commitment to protect the environment.


As a dynamic and fast-growing professional body and business school, it is essential that we maintain environmental practices across all our activities.


We are committed to continual improvement and protection of the environment” said Dhammika Fernando-Immediate Past President, CIPM Sri Lanka who was instrumental in initiating the ISO EMS compliance and certification project during his tenure as President.


“The Chairman of the CIPM Standing Committee on Standardization, Quality Assurance & Certification-Solamon Sumanasooriya and Chief Executive Officer of CIPM-U. A. C. Obeyesekere provided their fullest support, guidance and motivation to implement ISO compliant environmental management practices across all processes at CIPM to obtain this certification” said Jayantha Amerasinghe-President CIPM Sri Lanka signifying the importance of top management support in successfully implementing initiatives of this nature.


“Manager-Quality Assurance & Compliance-Ms. Ruwani Senevirathne took the lead in the certification process and was supported by the Heads of Departments and staff members to design, introduce and implement high quality environmental standard initiatives in order to achieve the certification” he added.


CIPM was founded in 1959 – incorporated by Parliamentary Act No. 24 of 1976, amended by Act No. 31 of 2018.


CIPM is affiliated to the Asia Pacific Foundation of Human Resource Management and to the World Federation of People Management Associations.


CIPM, being a professional institute is also a constituent member of the Organization of Professional Associations [OPA] Sri Lanka.


Currently, CIPM comprises of over 1600 Professional Members who serve in both public and private organizations.


It was elevated to Chartered Status by the Parliament of Sri Lanka on the 28th of September 2018 by amending the original Act of establishment.
