Sri Lanka Junior Match Play Golf Championship 2016

In the most junior category 9 years and under (Copper Division), we saw Shanal Binuksha play consistent golf to beat Pranav Muralidaran5/4.

The match turned out to be one sided with Shanal being too strong for young Pranav.

The match was played over 9 holes. Both show promise and we are likely to see talent blossoming with maturity and practice.

In the Gold division the finalist make the cut to battle it out for the coveted Rukmini Kodgoda trophy and the Sri Lanka Junior Match Play Champion title.

In this division age group 18 yrs and below, Vinod Weerasinghe stopped the past champion Prashan Peiris going for a third win.

Vinod played good golf with his recent overseas training coming into play and showing much maturity to beat Prashan 2 up.

In the second semi - final game T.

Akash took the Januka Dilshanto the 22nd hole for a surprise win.

We are likely to see an exciting final with the two finalist. In the silver division age group under 15 yrs top seed Taniya Balasuriya beat Haroon Aslam9/7 and Himal Randima beat Dilshan Malinda on the 20th hole to secure a place in the final.

The talent shown in the Bronze division age group 12 years was high with two top class players making the final.

NirekhTejwani continued good form by trouncing Sherin Mithara 7/6.

In the second semi - final game of the Bronze division another talented player Yanik Kumara showed grit to beat K Danushan 4/2.

The prize distribution will be held on Thursday at 1.00 PM hosted by the sponsor Perera and Sons Bakers Ltd and the tournament is organized by the Sri Lanka Golf Union.
