Modified MINI JCW sets unofficial front-wheel drive record on Nurburgring

A modified MINI JCW has set a new record for a front-wheel drive car around the Nürburgring.

Our friend Christian Gebhardt from Sport Auto took a MINI John Cooper Works tuned by Schirra Motoring and lapped the Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 44 seconds which makes it 10s quicker than the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R.

While this new record can't be considered official since it's done with a tuned car, it is worth mentioning the modified MINI here is fully street legal even though it went through a series of changes.

The German tuners bumped output of the four-cylinder 1.6-liter turbocharged engine from 211 HP (155 kW) to an impressive 290 HP (213 kW) and also installed a Drexler limited slip differential, KW coilover suspension while the stock tires were replaced with a new set of Dunlop Direzza 03G.

Recaro Pole Position seats were also installed and combined with several other lightweight components have reduced the weight of the MINI JCW GTS by Schirra Motoring by 175 kg (385 lbs) which means the vehicle now weighs only 1,005 kg (2,215 lbs).
