HNB Finance secures CRIB Silver for disciplined credit data governance

HNB Finance PLC has secured the Silver Award in the Data Submission Volume ,Category 4 at the CRIB Data Management and Compliance Awards 2026, organised by the Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka.

The recognition was presented at CRIB’s Annual CEOs Forum and Institutional Rating Awards Ceremony 2026, which brought together leaders from Sri Lanka’s banking and non-bank financial institution sectors to recognise excellence in credit-data management, institutional compliance and responsible financial practices.

The CRIB awards recognise financial institutions across key areas including Data Validity, Data Management Efficiency and Data Submission Volume, with Gold, Silver and Bronze honours presented within categories structured according to the scale and volume of information submitted by participating institutions.

HNB Finance’s Silver Award reflects the Company’s continued commitment to submitting accurate, complete and timely credit information while maintaining the systems, controls and governance standards required to manage customer data responsibly.

The awards follow a stringent institution-level assessment process covering the validity, accuracy, consistency, completeness and timeliness of credit information submitted to CRIB.

Institutions are also assessed on data-management efficiency and adherence to applicable reporting, regulatory and compliance requirements.

Commenting on the achievement, HNB Finance Managing Director,CEO Chaminda Prabhath said

Accurate and timely credit information is not simply a regulatory requirement.

It directly affects the ability of customers to access finance and the quality of the lending decisions made by financial institutions.

When customer credit records are maintained correctly, responsible borrowers can be assessed more fairly, lending decisions can be made more efficiently and unnecessary delays in obtaining financial facilities can be reduced.”

“Strong credit-data management also supports financial discipline.

It enables institutions to price and manage risk more responsibly, protect the quality of their lending portfolios and safeguard the interests of depositors and other stakeholders.

This recognition reflects the commitment of our teams to maintaining disciplined processes while continuing to build a responsible and customer-focused financial institution.”

Reliable credit information has become increasingly important as Sri Lanka seeks to expand access to formal finance while strengthening financial-sector stability.

Accurate credit records help reduce information gaps between borrowers and lenders, support objective credit assessments and enable financial institutions to extend credit more responsibly.

For customers, improved credit-data quality can contribute to faster assessments, more transparent lending decisions and better access to appropriately structured financial products.

At the institutional level, it strengthens credit-risk management, responsible lending and the early identification of potential repayment risks.

HNB Finance said the award would further encourage the Company to strengthen its data-governance systems, regulatory compliance framework, digital reporting capabilities and customer-information management practices.

Organised by Sri Lanka’s statutory credit-information authority, the CRIB Institutional Rating Awards are regarded as among the country’s most coveted and prestigious recognitions for excellence in credit-data management and compliance within the financial-services industry.
