Samaposha Enriches the Lives of Rural Famers through “Vasantha Udanaya”

Samaposha, the leading cereal brand of Plenty Foods (Pvt) Ltd., a subsidiary of Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL), organized “Samaposha Vasantha Udanaya” for the 8th consecutive year in Thalawa Mudunegama on the 19th April 2015.

Carried out under the Govi Sathuta initiative, this community outreach event enriched lives and contributed towards the overall well-being of the rural agricultural community linked with Plenty Foods (Pvt) Ltd.

This year’s ‘Samaposha Vasantha Udanaya’ Avurudu Festival generated the highest level of enthusiasm compared with the previous years.


Over 600 farmer families participated in a wide range of traditional Avurudu games.


The generous financial sponsorship of Samaposha covered the total cost of the event.


This altruistic gesture of Plenty Foods (Pvt) Ltd showed that they were genuinely interested in supporting the welfare of Sri Lanka’s farming community while also strengthening the country’s agricultural economy.


The event was jointly organized by the farmers, farmers’ organizations and Plenty Foods (Pvt) Ltd.

One of the main highlights of the event was the crowning of ‘Samaposha Govi Raja’ in appreciation of the contribution made by farmers throughout the year. Mr. K. G. Thilakarathne Banda of Thalawa was adjudged as the Samaposha Govi Raja 2015 while R. G. Shanthalal Chandrasiri of Mudunegama and H. G Wijesekara of Mahawelithenna became 2nd and 3rd runner ups, respectively.


Tokens of appreciation were also presented to elderly farmers who have contributed to the growth and sustainability of the company.


In the past, the annual event has reached out to rural farmers living in various regions of the country including Kiriibbanwewa, Mahiyanganaya, Eppawela, Galenbindunuwewa Tissamaharamaya, Bulnewa and Meegahakivula.

It is they who supply the raw materials required to manufacture the nation’s flagship cereal, Samaposha.


An annual activity, ‘Samaposha Vasantha Udanaya’ is organized to motivate these rural farmers who face severe hardships on a daily basis” stated Plenty Foods Director/Chief Executive Officer Shammi Karunaratne.

Samaposha is manufactured using only locally grown wholesome ingredients such as rice, soya, corn and green gram which are obtained by local farmers who are registered under the
Backward Integration Project.

‘Samaposha Vasantha Udanaya’ is a much awaited annual Avurudu event designed to put a smile on the faces of the country’s rural farming community who work daily to produce the raw materials that are used to manufacture Samaposha, the leading cereal brand of Plenty Foods (Pvt.) Ltd.
