Preparing Sri Lanka for the Global Digital Economy : C-Clarke's Community Initiative Making a National Impact
In a remarkable demonstration of its commitment to advancing technology education in Sri Lanka, C-Clarke International Institute of Digital Sciences recently conducted two highly successful full-day technology workshops completely free of charge, attracting over 250 participants from across the country.
The workshops brought together students, graduates, professionals, entrepreneurs, and technology enthusiasts from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, creating a unique platform for practical learning, industry exposure, networking, and innovation.
Flutter Mobile Application Development Workshop
The first workshop, held on 23rd March from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., focused on Flutter Mobile Application Development and was conducted by Prashan Silva, Technical Lead at CodeGen International.
With approximately 120 participants in attendance, the workshop provided a comprehensive hands-on learning experience where participants successfully developed a commercially usable mobile application using Flutter, one of the world's most popular cross-platform development frameworks.
The session went far beyond theoretical concepts, enabling participants to gain real-world software development experience under the guidance of an industry expert.
Attendees learned modern application architecture, UI development, deployment strategies, and industry best practices currently used in professional software engineering environments.
AI, Machine Learning & Large Language Models Workshop
Following the overwhelming success of the Flutter workshop, C-Clarke International Institute organized a second full-day workshop on 14th June, dedicated to Machine Learning (ML) and Large Language Models (LLMs).
The workshop was conducted by Yashod Perera, Associate Tech Lead at WSO2, and attracted another 130 participants eager to explore the rapidly evolving world of Artificial Intelligence.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the hands-on development of a comprehensive AI Assistant capable of running directly on participants' own laptops, enabling them to automate tasks, improve productivity, and better understand how AI technologies can be integrated into real-world applications.
The practical nature of the workshop allowed attendees to move beyond simply using AI tools and instead learn how to build and customize intelligent systems themselves.
A Diverse Community United by Technology
What made these events particularly special was the diversity of participants.
The workshops welcomed students who had recently completed their O/L and A/L examinations, university undergraduates, graduates, working professionals, career changers aspiring to enter the IT industry, startup founders, entrepreneurs planning to launch AI and software development companies, and technology enthusiasts from numerous sectors.
This broad participation highlights a growing national interest in digital transformation and emerging technologies.
Building Skills That Drive National Growth
The technology industry has become one of the most powerful drivers of economic growth worldwide.
Global technology giants such as Google, Meta (Facebook), Microsoft, Amazon, and countless software companies generate billions of dollars in foreign revenue annually, contributing significantly to the economies of countries such as the United States.
Their success is built upon highly skilled technology professionals who create software products and digital services used by millions around the world.
Sri Lanka possesses immense untapped talent capable of contributing to the global digital economy.
However, unlocking that potential requires practical, industry-oriented education that bridges the gap between academic knowledge and real-world skills.
By providing free access to high-quality technical training delivered by industry experts, initiatives such as those conducted by C-Clarke International Institute help create a stronger pipeline of skilled professionals who can secure high-value employment, establish technology startups, attract foreign income, and contribute directly to national economic growth.
The expansion of the country's technology workforce can create thousands of new opportunities, increase foreign exchange earnings, improve innovation capacity, and position Sri Lanka as a competitive player in the global digital economy.
Overwhelmingly Positive Response
The response from participants has been overwhelmingly positive.
Many attendees praised the practical, hands-on approach adopted throughout the workshops and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn directly from experienced industry leaders.
Participants highlighted that such training programs are rarely available free of charge and noted the significant value gained through the intensive full-day sessions.
Many professionals and students have requested that C-Clarke International Institute continue organizing similar initiatives and have expressed interest in supporting the institute's mission through volunteering, collaboration, mentorship, and future participation.
Continuing the Mission : Free React Frontend Development Workshop
Encouraged by the tremendous success of the previous events and the strong demand from the community, C-Clarke International Institute is pleased to announce its next completely free full-day workshop.
The upcoming workshop will be held on Sunday, 5th July 2026, from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. and will focus on React Frontend Development, one of the most sought-after technologies in modern web application development.
The workshop will be conducted by Dilshan Ariyarathna, Technical Lead Engineer at iCan Lanka.
As with previous events, the workshop will be conducted physically and will emphasize hands-on practical learning, enabling participants to build real-world applications while receiving guidance from an experienced industry professional.
Investing in the Future
At a time when digital skills are becoming essential for economic progress, initiatives that provide accessible, practical, and industry-relevant education are more important than ever.
Through these workshops, C-Clarke International Institute continues to demonstrate its commitment to nurturing Sri Lanka's next generation of software engineers, AI specialists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and technology leaders.
By empowering individuals with the skills needed to thrive in the global technology landscape, the institute is not only transforming careers but also contributing to the long-term growth, competitiveness, and prosperity of the nation.
The journey towards building a stronger digital future for Sri Lanka has already begun and hundreds of aspiring professionals are choosing to be part of it.
