Department of Business Management Wayamba University of Sri Lanka and Maliban Forge Partnership to Enhance Student Development

Businesscafe - In a landmark move to foster academic-industry collaboration, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka and Maliban Biscuit Group of Companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 7, 2025, at the university premises.

The ceremony was graced by the Vice Chancellor of Wayamba University (Senior Prof. Udith K Jayasinghe) , the Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance (Prof. S K Gamage, the Registrar of university (Mr. W A D Chithrananda), the Head / Department of Business Management (Dr. W.D.N.S.M Thennakoon), and the staff members of Department of Business Management, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, including the Group Head of HR & Admin Manager (Mr. W A D W Rohana Wijesuriya), Group Talent Development Manager(Mr.T Dimuth Liyanagama), and Manager – Talent Acquisition & HR Business Partner(Mr.Prageeth Dewasirinarayana).

This MoU established a partnership aimed at providing Wayamba University students with invaluable industrial exposure and professional learning experience through internships and management trainee programmes.


This collaboration is set to enhance practical learning, improve employability, and nurture leadership skills among the student community.


Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of Wayamba University remarked,


“This partnership will bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application, offering our students a unique opportunity to excel in their professional careers.”

The partnership also benefits Maliban by granting access to a pool of talented and motivated students, strengthening ties with the academic community and nurturing future leaders aligned with the company’s values and operational goals.

“This MoU reflects Maliban’s commitment to investing in Sri Lanka’s future by empowering the next generation of professionals,” said by Group Head of HR & Admin Manager, Maliban Biscuit Group of Companies.

As a pioneer in the Sri Lankan biscuit industry for over 70 years, Maliban continues to innovate and contribute to the Nation’s progress and this partnership with Wayamba University marks another milestone in its journey.
