HNB brightens Royal College’s ‘Sparks 2018’ as its banking partner

HNB PLc, Sri Lanka’s premier private sector commercial bank has come forward as Banking Partner of ‘Sparks 2018’, Royal College Colombo’s flagship project which gives students the opportunity of creativity and a platform to exhibit their most imaginative and innovative creations.

Spark'18 is essentially an innovation exhibition organized to give students an opportunity to bring their imagination to life.


Now on at Royal College premises at Rajakeeya Mawatha, Spark 2018 has participation of more than 8000 students from Royal College itself plus around 100,000 students from select schools island- wide, all between the ages of 8 and 18, exhibit over 600, one- of- a kind inventions.

HNB’s Deputy General Manager, Retail Banking, Sanjay Wijemanne, speaking on HNB’s collaboration with Royal College on the first ever Spark exhibition, said “It is a privilege to partner a project with a prominent public school such as Royal College and to set a vision and inspire our future generation on the need for imagination, invention and the power of innovation.


We at HNB see our partnership with Spark 2018 as a perfect fit.”

Wijemanne went on to note that through the students’ saving units HNB aims to inculcate the habit of saving and promote financial discipline at a very young age.


“While our association with Spark strengthens our long- standing partnership with the school, it will also help us establish our commitment and support to innovation and invention by young enthusiasts.”

With over 600 innovations and inventions taking centre stage, Spark’18 is the first innovation exhibition of such scale and magnitude to be held in the country.


To further inspire the youth to think innovatively, the event will also showcase award winning inventions that were adjudged as Sri Lanka’s top ten at an island-wide competition organized by Sri Lanka Inventors Commission, the apex body that promotes young people to invent.
