EDEX Expo 2019 – Celebrating 16 years of Excellence in Education and Career Guidance ( 16 Photos )

EDEX Expo, Sri Lanka’s Premier and Largest Education Exhibition and Job Fair, will once again take center stage from 18th to 20th January 2019 at BMICH Colombo and on 25th & 26th January 2019 at KCC Kandy.

Held for the 16th consecutive year, EDEX over the years has become a household name for the youth when deciding their next step in higher education and career choices.


Hon. Rauff Hakeem Minister of City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education will ceremoniously declare open the Colombo event as the Chief Guest.

Originated in year 2004,the EDEX Expo has transformed from being a school career fair to being a renowned global name in the education sector, which has continued to empower Sri Lankan youth to be globally competitive, and reach towards the pinnacle of achievements.

EDEX Expo 2019 will encompass a platform of local and global convergence of key post-secondary educational stakeholders, comprising of over 200 education exhibition booths, representing local and foreign universities and institutes from over 20 countries.


International presence will be enhanced with participation of EDCIL (a government of India facilitation entity), participation of number of reputed Indian universities together with country pavilions from Japan, Australia and France.


Direct or local representatives from leading Universities in USA, UK, Russia, China, Singapore, Pakistan, Canada, Hungary and Switzerland will enhance the value of the Expo further.

The Expo will continue to also feature the job fair, career guidance center, entrepreneurship zone, as well as give host to its community based projects under the banners of EDEX Nenepahana, EDEX Sithuwam and EDEX Think Green.

EDEX Job Fair, which creates a conduit between job providers and seekers, will comprise stalls of reputed and leading corporates representing many important segments in the economy.

The Psychometric Testing Centre, in collaboration with the National Career Guidance Association (NCGA) will provide the youth yeoman service in guiding youth on the right career paths.

Towards promoting entrepreneurship among the Sri Lankan youth and building an entrepreneur eco-system, EDEX will launch the ‘Empower the Entrepreneur’ program to attract potential entrepreneurs and provide a platform to nurture them to be to be competitive with the regional, national and global brands.

EDEX Nenapahana has been endeavoring to provide equitable access to education among marginalized and deprived student communities in rural and remote regions of the country.


Over the last 7 years, EDEX Nenapahanahas reached out to over 120 deserving schools covering 20 districts.


This year EDEX Nenapahana will be hosting a special ceremony at BMICH on 19th Jan 2018 in parallel to the exhibition; in order to give away much needed library books, stationery, equipment, furniture, etc. to selected underprivileged schools.

EDEX Sithuwam,the annual all-island art competition to promote the artistic talents of students and youth, was successfully conducted for the 11th year with over 20,000 drawing submissions from four age categories.


A display of 250 winning paintings will be held parallel to the Colombo exhibition at BMICH.

EDEX Think Green, an initiative launched to educate, activate and engage youth towards sustainable living, will continue to focus and educate the expo visitors on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

An added feature to mark 16 years of excellence of EDEX will be an innovation and invention zone under EDEX Innoventions, which will be held at BMICH Mihilaka Medura coinciding with the main exhibition in Colombo.


EDEX Innoventions will offer a valuable opportunity for local inventors and innovators to showcase the cutting-edge technologies and innovations at this prestigious event.


Furthermore, the best exhibits of the recently held "Spark’18" exhibition will be also showcased at EDEX Innoventions.


The exhibits will be inspected by pioneer inventors, entrepreneurs and venture capitalist of Sri Lanka, providing a unique opportunity for young inventors to further develop their inventions and commercialize them.

EDEX has been endorsed by the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Town Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education, Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison reforms, Northern Development, Vocational Training, Skills Development and Youth Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Trade Union Relations and Social Empowerment, Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
