Businesscafe - The British Council is now taking registrations for their Skills Plus English course specially designed for students who have completed their A-Level exams.

The course has been customised to help students build confidence and develop their English language skills.

It is supplemented by life skills aimed at young adults who are making important life choices in their school and career plans.

The course provides an opportunity to meet and interact with likeminded individuals and uses project-based, active learning techniques to make lessons relevant and applicable to real-life situations.

It focuses on a variety of communication skills such as delivering presentations, taking part in debates, team building, digital literacy whilst also enabling students to develop important life skills such as collaboration, leadership and personal development, creativity and critical thinking.

Skills Plus offers five different levels, from elementary to advanced, thereby giving students an opportunity to improve their skills.

Anju Moses, Head of Young Learners and Adults, Teaching Centre, said,

“our students work together in and outside the classroom to complete real-world projects such as developing a development project proposal for the Sri Lankan board of tourism or designing a campaign to promote safe use of social media in Sri Lankan Universities.

During these projects students will learn and practice research skills, critical thinking and collaborative skills which will support them in their future studies and career”

Helen Sykes, the Deputy Director who runs the island wide Teaching Centres was keen to let us know that “Skills Plus is much more than just English language learning.

It is an interactive, hands-on course designed to prepare Sri Lankan students to reach their educational, career and life goals, packed with essential soft skills for the future work place.‘’

The British Council’s highly qualified teachers offer expert guidance, in interactive face-to-face and online English courses, providing students with the confidence to use the English language in real life situations.
