From Monte Carlo to Colombo Chef Stefano La Penna Brings the Soul of Italy to Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams Sri Lanka

There are some chefs who simply cook, and then there are chefs like Stefano Maria La Penna, storytellers who plate memories, culture and emotion with every dish.

This June, Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams Sri Lanka invites guests to experience Italy through the eyes, hands and heart of Chef Stefano as Bistro Des Marées hosts “An Italiano Culinary Affair”, a special culinary showcase in collaboration with Natalina from 2nd to 7th June 2026.

Currently the Head Chef of Natalina, Chef Stefano’s journey began far from the glamour of fine dining kitchens.

As a child in Italy, he spent hours watching his grandmother cook, moments that quietly sparked a lifelong passion for food.

That passion would eventually take him across some of Europe’s most celebrated culinary destinations, from the Michelin-starred teachings of Niko Romito in Castel di Sangro to kitchens in Rome, Milan and the French Alps, before continuing onward to Monte Carlo, the Caribbean and the Bahamas.

Now, Colombo has the opportunity to experience his deeply personal interpretation of Italian cuisine.

Hosted at Bistro Des Marées on Level 23, the limited-time dining experience promises more than just a menu, it is an invitation into the warmth and richness of Italian dining culture, where meals are slow, conversations are long and every dish carries a story.

Guests can look forward to a carefully curated à la carte menu that celebrates both tradition and refinement. Highlights include the delicate Capesante, Zucchine e Zafferano featuring grilled Hokkaido scallops served in a saffron sauce, alongside the comforting richness of Pasta Alla Zozzona, a Roman-inspired rigatoni finished with duck breast bacon and a silky egg yolk cheese emulsion.

Seafood lovers can indulge in the Salmone in Crosta di Patate, a beautifully grilled salmon fillet layered with a crisp potato crust and served with green pea purée and black olive tapenade, while those seeking classic Italian comfort can savour handmade Ravioli di Salmone paired with roasted tomatoes and pesto.

To finish, the experience would not be complete without traditional Italian desserts such as Bomboloni alla Crema and handcrafted Cannoli di Ricotta e Cioccolata sweet finales that capture the charm of an authentic Italian pasticceria.

A special celebration of the Italian National Day will be held on 2nd June, while “An Italiano Culinary Affair” Pop-Up will take place from 4th to 7th June 2026 at Bistro Des Marées, with lunch served from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM and dinner from 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM.
