What happens when Pan-Asian flavour meets a centuries-old philosophy of mindful eating?
At Yazu at the Beach, the answer is a menu that is colourful, playful and seriously delicious, while opening up a new dining avenue for vegetarian and Jain guests on Sri Lanka’s southern coast.
Yazu at the Beach, the beachfront Pan-Asian dining destination at Radisson Blu Resort Galle, has introduced a dedicated Jain and Vegetarian menu, bringing together Japanese, Cantonese and Asian-inspired favourites without making vegetables feel like an afterthought.
The menu spans everything from Miso Shiro, Tibetan Thenthuk and Sweet Corn Soup to Crispy Asian Greens Cheung Fung, Avocado Tartare, Edamame Dumplings and a Crispy Avocado & Cucumber Roll.
Larger plates include Mock Duck & Tofu Clay Pot, Chilli Bean Clay Pot Tofu, Mah Poh Tofu and Cantonese Asian Greens.
At the heart of Jain food culture is ahimsa, or non-violence, reflected in a dietary philosophy centred on avoiding harm to living beings.
Traditional Jain practices can also exclude root vegetables, while emphasising mindful choices around ingredients and preparation.
For Yazu, the opportunity is to translate that philosophy into food that still feels unmistakably Yazu: vibrant, contemporary and made for sharing.
There is a health story here too.
Well-planned vegetarian diets can provide nutritional adequacy and are associated with improvements in several cardiometabolic health outcomes.
Research also links healthier plant-based dietary patterns with lower risks of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
The launch also taps into an emerging gap along the South Coast.
While vegetarian food is increasingly accessible in destinations such as Galle and Ahangama, dedicated vegetarian concepts are still relatively limited, while travellers seeking specifically Jain food can find it harder to identify suitable options.
For Yazu, the answer is simple: more choice, more flavour, and absolutely no boring vegetables.
With the Indian Ocean as its backdrop and Yazu’s signature energy at the table, Galle now has another reason to say yes to eating green.
