Crysbro Haritha Sathkaraya introduces new initiatives to improve green practices

Businesscafe - Committed as a socially responsible organisation with a track record for introducing green initiatives, Sri Lanka’s largest poultry producer Crysbro has announced that it will be planting a sapling for every new employee under the Haritha Sathkaraya initiative.

This is just one from a host of initiatives that the company will be introducing towards the overall betterment of its new as well as existing staff members.

An extension of the Crysbro Haritha Sathkaraya corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, this programme applies to all recruits at the Group’s 17 business centres.

The plant saplings for this are sourced and provided by the Crysbro Human Resources Division.

“As the largest poultry company in Sri Lanka, Crysbro has been able to carry out its production operations with the 14001:2015 ISO standard certification (Environmental Management System), in a sustainable environment while maintaining a low carbon footprint at all 17 business centres.

Also, through this new programme, every new recruit will have the blessed opportunity to make a direct contribution to the strict environmental protection practices maintained by the company since inception,” said Crysbro Group Human Resources and Administration Manager Ranjana Mahindasiri.

“We launch a series of programmes across the island every year, with a focus on achieving core goals of the Crysbro Group, such as environmental sustainability, health, socio-economic fairness and profitability.

Fresh chicken production, our foremost product, requires fertile soil, a rich plant system, and clean water resources.

Over the past 50 years, our technological advancements have been one of the greatest achievements we’ve made in utilising machinery and procedures that minimize damage to the environment throughout the entire manufacturing process,” he added.

Environmental data from 1990 to 2011 shows that Sri Lanka’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions increased by an astounding 43 percent.

In an effort to combat this rise, Crysbro strengthened its sustainable business vision, and has planted over 3,500 new plants in selected eco-sensitive areas through the company’s Haritha Sathkaraya initiative.

Moreover, Crysbro has also adopted a policy, aptly titled the ‘Zero Wastage Policy’, to not release any contaminants into the environment in the poultry production network to keep all carcasses environmentally friendly at all times.
