Air Sports Club set to debut : Bringing a new era of sport-led wellness and healthy living to Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka will celebrate the launch of the Air Sports Club on 08th April 2026, a game-changing facility by Air Sports International (Pvt) Ltd, with the promise to transform the country’s approach to health, wellness, fitness, competition, and community.
Driven by the vision of Isuru Hewaparakkrama, Burhanudheen Thassim, and Ganatharan Jeyakumar, Air Sports Club opens its doors to Sri Lankans at an opportune moment when freshness and differentiation in the health and wellness space are increasingly sought after.
The facility features state-of-the-art pickleball and badminton courts, table tennis, a members’ lounge and café, and a multipurpose studio offering yoga, dance, Zumba, Pilates, and a range of other activities, along with dedicated recovery and performance areas including cold plunges and therapeutic recovery services.
The total facility is worth over US$4 million, maintains international standards, and is fully air conditioned with the added benefit of in-house technology to enable global broadcasting of matches and events.
Pickleball, though still a novelty in Sri Lanka, is one of the fastest-growing sports globally, with rapid adoption across the United States, Asia, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Communities are forming around the sport at a pace few others have matched, positioning Sri Lanka well to be part of this global movement.
“Air Sports Club was born from a simple idea where pickleball is more than a game.
It is a force which brings people together.
We did not set out to simply build courts, but to create a space where people want to stay, connect, and truly belong,” said Isuru Hewaparakkrama, Director, Air Sports International (Pvt) Ltd, adding,
“Since beginning in March 2024, we have been intentional about every detail, shaping an environment grounded in energy, wellness, and human connection, where you can play, recover, recharge, and unwind.
And that is exactly what we are building here, a place you come for the game, but stay for the people.”
“The new venue is designed to set the stage for champions while also serving as an inclusive hub for players of all levels,” said Burhanudheen Thassim, Director of Air Sports International (Pvt) Ltd.
“Our focus has been on creating a high-quality, professionally managed environment that supports both competitive play and everyday engagement.”
The facility is designed as a gateway for play and wellness.
The multipurpose studio hosts yoga, Zumba, dancing, and Pilates sessions, complemented by a recovery centre and a café’, where members can relax, connect and recharge.
The Air Sports Club is open from 06:00 am to midnight, offering a flexible and engaging experience for a wide community of users.
“We are looking to give our members a novel experience that will bring them together and keep them together within a health and wellness framework,” said Ganatharan Jeyakumar, Director Air Sports International (Pvt) Ltd., adding,
“In May 2026, we will host the inaugural Moneyball Championship, where competitors will battle for the prestigious M. H. Omar Memorial Trophy and other prizes, setting the tone for a calendar of high-energy events.“
Asked why and how he saw potential for this investment, Mr. Aslam Omar, the innovative and visionary Sri Lankan investor, said,
“We saw an opportunity to engage Sri Lanka’s youth, digital nomads, expatriates, competitive sportsmen, and business leaders with the Air Sports Club, built around the idea of ‘For an Active Social Life’ – a belief that true health comes from both fitness and social connection.
Whether a competitive athlete, a professional unwinding after a long week, or a parent seeking community, Air Sports Club offers something to keep life energised and inspiring.
Sri Lanka is a wonderful place, and it deserves investments that can attract people from around the world.
We are not just investing for the future, but in our future, with a global perspective in mind.
While broader policy support is important, I have always believed that we must carve our own paths - waiting for others to define it is simply not enough.”
“This facility is for everyone - young and old, sportsmen, and those not so inclined.
It is a space for togetherness and quality time.
Air is, first and foremost, a project that is rewiring the social and healthy lifestyle landscape in Sri Lanka.
We are proud to have brought this vision to fruition, and we hope it will be seen by the broader business community as a sign of our resilience as a people and investors, and of our willingness to look beyond pessimism.
Sri Lanka is destined for greatness, and we are proud to play a part in that journey.
We have a rich heritage, but it is up to us to live up to it – and, as my father showed us through his actions – be fearlessly hungry for innovative investment”.
“Air Sports Club is a "third space" - a social environment separate from home (the first space) and work or school (the second space).
It is a place where people come together, connect, and belong, regardless of who they are.”
“Air Sports International Pvt Ltd is proud to deliver a facility that seamlessly blends sport, wellness, and community – a reflection of Sri Lanka’s resilience and ambition, and a space where these qualities come alive every day”.
