Union Assurance Provides Essential Medicine to Lady Ridgeway Hospital

Businesscafe - Union Assurance, Sri Lanka's trailblazing Life Insurer, recently offered 100 Baby Bloodlines sets and 200 units of Sodium Bicarbonate to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital in Colombo, as part of project Hope.

Employees of the Company generously contributed to this project to protect the children of the nation during these unprecedented times.

Given the shortage of medicine across the island, Union Assurance believes it is time to step up and ensure that essential medicine are available to treat patients.

The Chief People Officer of Union Assurance, Imtiyaz Aniff thanked the Company’s staff for supporting the Hope project.


He noted that their corporate culture fosters a caring attitude that permeates all levels of the organisation.

 

“This is a noble initiative, and will help save the lives of vulnerable children in these challenging times,” he added.

Dr. J. Wijesooriya, the Director of Lady Ridgeway Hospital, stated,


“We are thankful to Union Assurance for their efforts in providing essential medicine, which helped the hospital in this crucial juncture.


This contribution strengthens our health system and ensures our hospital is ready to receive all patients.”

The Lady Ridgeway Hospital in Borella is the largest free-of-charge paediatric hospital in Sri Lanka.


It has a bed-strength of over 900, and serves as the national referral centre for paediatric care. 

The Deputy Director of Lady Ridgeway Hospital, Dr. Santhush Senapathi thanked the Union Assurance team for launching the Hope project.


He said such initiatives by the private sector to support public health institutions are praiseworthy.


“The medicine provided are essential for the health and well-being of our child patients,” he noted.

In recent times, Union Assurance engaged in various health-related CSR activities. 


During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Company undertook a series of far-reaching initiatives. 


In line with its pledge to support national development, CSR programmes were launched in the core areas of health, education, and the environment.


Notable among these was a co-branded campaign with the Ministry of Health.


It greatly succeeded in raising public awareness about protection from the virus.


The Company also donated vital medical equipment including high-flow oxygen machines, emergency trolleys, video laryngoscopes, and ventilators to national hospitals.
