Since officially resuming production operations on August 29th, barely a month after their Gampola Factory was gutted by a fire and devastating blaze, Kandurata Umbrella Industries made its presence at the Industry Expo 2025 exhibition, showcasing their innovative product that would revolutionize the country’s tea plantation industry.
The new product, a practical, timely and innovative revelation by Sri Lanka’s pioneering entity to locally produce quality umbrellas under the iconic ‘Penguin’ brand name, comes as an ideal solution to the country’s tea plantation industry.
Providing the perfect remedy to a prolonged problem faced by the tea pluckers, the latest product of Kandurata Umbrellas replaces the traditional cane basket with a more versatile and spacious backpack made out of durable material used to produce umbrellas, comes with a fixed umbrella that could withstand any rigid weather conditions such as rain, wind and heat.
Exhibiting their range of products, including mosquito nets, raincoats, socks, clothes drying racks, shoe racks, broom stick poles, and umbrella frames (shaft/tubes & Ribs), in addition to umbrellas from countless categories, Kandurata Umbrellas made their presence at Industry Expo 2025 at Hall B-02 during the packed four days.
Even His Excellency, the President of Sri Lanka, Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake made a brief visit at the stall during his official visit to the Industry Expo 2025 and divulged his compliments, while being briefed on the products as well as the unyielding services and contributions by Kandurata Umbrellas, to the economy and the community.
Organised by the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development and the Industrial Development Board (IDB), Industry Expo 2025 provided Sri Lanka’s industrial sector to come together and showcase innovation, technology and sustainable practices, Kandurata Umbrellas made use of the platform to showcase their capability of making a strong and sustainable return following the devastating fire that completely destroyed the factory in Gampola on July 28th, 2025.
The Industry Expo 2025 was inaugurated by Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, Mr. Sunil Handunnetti on September 18th, and the exhibition included 450 stands presented by industrialists from all over Sri Lanka, representing 25 industrial sectors.
Kandurata Umbrella Industries, operating since 1977, has become a staple in Sri Lankan life, not just for its umbrellas but also for a wide range of products including mosquito nets, raincoats, socks, clothes drying racks, shoe racks, broom stick poles, and umbrella frames (shaft/tubes and ribs).
Making their presence at the Industry Expo 2025, the pioneer umbrella producers in Sri Lanka, kept their pledge of reemerging from ashes, stronger than ever, and continue with their mission to deliver exceptional products and invest in the nation.
