Melwa sponsors Sri Lankan athlete at Asian African Pacific Powerlifting Championship 2025

Melwa, Sri Lanka’s leading name in the steel manufacturing sector, has once again extended its corporate social responsibility initiatives to uplift the nation’s sporting arena.

In a notable milestone, the company sponsored Pradeep S. Sumudu of the Sri Lanka Army, who represented the country at the Asian African Pacific Powerlifting Championship 2025.


The championship, held in Himeji, Japan, drew a large number of competitors representing countries from Asia, Africa, and the Pacific region.


Pradeep S. Sumudu brought glory to Sri Lanka in the 59kg weight class, securing the following achievements: Squat – 220 kg (Silver Medal / Sri Lanka Record), Bench Press – 135 kg (Bronze Medal), Deadlift – 250 kg (Bronze Medal), Overall Total – 605 kg (Silver Medal / Sri Lanka Record).


These exceptional performances also earned him 5th place in the world rankings.


Melwa has been at the forefront of providing facilities and sponsorships for Sri Lankan athletes across various sports, including motorsports, with the aim of nurturing talent and promoting excellence.
