'Floating Market' makes its way to Sri Lanka

"Floating Market" at the Bastian Mawatha in Pettah will be ceremonially opened under the patronage of Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena on Friday (22).

Over 92 stalls have been established within the floating market to accommodate local vendors. According to UDA sources Priority will be given to removed unauthorized stall owners when allocating new stalls.


Following geo-political changes that took place in the country in May 2009, more attention was paid to the overall development of the country by the Government and under this concept the Colombo City Beautification Project became a priority. The Pettah Floating market was part of its city beautification project.


The designing has been done under chartered Architect Thushari Kariyawasam and the architectural planning has been handled by Urban Development Authority (UDA). Th Sri Lanka Army and the Navy has done the construction and other work realted to the project.(KH)
