Basemark Launches ISO 26262 Compliant Graphics Solution for Automotive HMI Systems

Businesscafe - Basemark, a leading automotive software enterprise, today announced the industry’s first toolchain, graphics runtime and instrument cluster implementation that utilizes the OpenGL SC 2.0 API on automotive-grade hardware.

The implementation is safety certifiable according to ISO 26262 functional safety requirements up to level ASILB.

Functional safety is critical in modern vehicles to protect everyone inside and around the car.

Functional safety requirements are naturally important in automotive systems like braking and steering, but also in cockpit displays.

Modern vehicle instrument clusters show critical advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) information to the driver, and these must also comply with functional safety standards.

Basemark is collaborating with two of its ecosystem companies, CoreAVI and Imagination Technologies, to enable groundbreaking solutions with popular automotive hardware.

CoreAVI’s VkCoreGL™ SC2 OpenGL® SC 2.0 libraries are running on their VkCore® SC Vulkan®-based graphics and compute driver on NXP’s i.MX 8 hardware, and Imagination Technologies drivers are running on Renesas R-Car H3 hardware.

Basemark Rocksolid Graphics Engine is running on both of these platforms, thereby creating a separation of hardware and software.

This is demonstrated by running identical instrument cluster reference implementation on both platforms.

“Safety has always been at the core of our processes, throughout developing our IP.

We are excited to play a key role in enabling Basemark to lead the industry by quickly and easily creating and deploying its engine onto OpenGL SC and real automotive hardware.

As a company, we have dedicated resources, with a strong team of engineers, covering all the functional safety projects in the organisation, including GPU, NNA, EPP and most recently, CPU.

We share a common goal with Basemark, and we’re excited to see its solution enhancing current and future automotive HMI systems,” said Jamie Broome, VP Automotive Segment from Imagination Technologies.

“We’re excited to partner with Basemark to demonstrate the joint benefits of our Vulkan SC driver and OpenGL SC2 libraries with their Rocksolid Graphics Engine,” said Neil Stroud, Vice President, Marketing and Business Development at CoreAVI.

“Together, we’re offering our customers the best in modern, safe automotive cockpit technology that will elevate their platforms to the next level.”

“We are delighted to work with such leading technology companies as CoreAVI and Imagination Technologies.

Both companies are true experts in functional safety, and together, we are today presenting a full end-to-end solution with appropriate tooling that any OEM or Tier-1 company can immediately take into use and design and deploy instrument clusters and heads up displays with dynamic content, all according to functional safety requirements,” says Tero Sarkkinen, CEO and Founder of Basemark.

Basemark will be showcasing safe Instrument Cluster implementations on automotive hardware during CES at the demo suite in Venetian hotel.
