Following the request from the Venerable Kahawe Maithree Nayaka Thero from Meeyagala, The Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, SLT & Mobitel visited the location and observed that there was no connectivity and people in the village were facing a lot of difficulties in connecting with their loved ones.
As per the direction given by Mr. Oshada Senanayake, Director General of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, SLT Mobitel immediately established connectivity within a week by putting up a repeater solution and plans were initiated to provide high-quality voice services and high-speed 4G broadband services for the area within 3 weeks.
The ceremonious opening of the site was graced by Mr. Oshada Senanayake, Director General of TRCSL, Senior representation from both SLT & Mobitel along with Government Officials.
Further, SLT & Mobitel handed over computers and other necessary equipment’s to help support the educational activities of children in the Meeyagala area.
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Lalith Seneviratne, Group CEO of SLT and Mobitel said
“As the nation’s telecommunication provider, we are privileged to fulfill TRCSL’s request in providing extended coverage to all Sri Lankans.

In 2019 alone, Mobitel invested over USD 100 million for network expansion and will continue to expand coverage throughout the island.
Further, the SLT group is committed to supporting the government’s initiative of "Gamata Sanniwedanaya" which aims to provide superior, uninterrupted and high-quality connectivity and broadband experience to every Sri Lankan.
