SLT MOBITEL Powers New Generation Awards 2021 celebrating the unsung contribution of Sri Lankan Youth

Businesscafe - SLT-MOBITEL, the National ICT, Telecommunications and Mobile Services Provider, has come forth to support the ‘New Generation Awards 2021’, designed to celebrate the achievements and unsung contribution of Sri Lankan youth.

The Awards held for the 2nd consecutive year is organised by the new generation chapter of Women in Management (WIM) in partnership with the National Youth Services Council (NYSC).


The theme for this year’s awards is ‘Arise Shine’, with the ceremony scheduled to take place at the Galadari Hotel.

The Awards aim to showcase extraordinary young leadership within the age group of 16 to 30 years who have positively contributed to communities, the nation and the world at large in fields such as careers, entrepreneurship, sports, social service, innovation, talents, arts, creative science, social media etc.

SLT-MOBITEL recognizes that youth account for over 23 percent of Sri Lanka’s population and are the future of this nation.


Youth are also key drivers in social entrepreneurship and development.


Empowering these members of society by capacity building and providing an enhanced voice contributes to the nation’s sustainable development process and growth.

As the national ICT provider, SLT-MOBITEL identifies the importance of enabling youth to take leadership roles and maximizing youth participation in catapulting Sri Lanka towards a digital era.

Physical and online interviews for short-listed nominees are currently ongoing and provides these youth the opportunity to explain their expectations and visions, enabling the judges to understand their unique stories.

The panel of judges for this year’s awards, chaired by Damitha Wickaramasinghe, Chairman – National Youth Service Council, also includes esteemed members Varuni Amunugama Fernando, Managing Director – Triad Advertising Limited and the national TV channel Derana; Kasturi Chelleraja Wilson, Group CEO/ Executive Director – Hemas Holdings PLC; Zahara Ansary, Country Manager – CIMA Sri Lanka; Ravi Dissanayake, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Marketing Management – Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies of the University of Kelaniya; (Prof) Dr. Suranga Silva, Director – CERIPA and Acting Director – CUCEC at University of Colombo, and Yasas Hewage, Marketer, Innovator and Entrepreneur.
