To recognise and celebrate the team’s historic performance, SLT-MOBITEL donated each player Rs 1,000,000 in cash and also presented Rs 250,000 for the trainer.
Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Youth & Sports, Minister of Development Co-ordination and Monitoring, and State Minister of Digital Technology and Enterprise Development participated in the presentation ceremony with Lalith Seneviratne, Group CEO, SLT, together with senior officials from the Sports Ministry and SLT-MOBITEL.
The Sri Lankan Team led by Suresh Dharmasena, Lasantha Ranaweera and D.M. Gamini, returned triumphantly after accomplishing a creditable 6th place finish; having beaten Brazil, Belgium and Poland earlier in the championship rounds.
The team was coached by Jagath Welikala.
