During the 7-hour back-to-back PUBG Mobile action, the Southern Sharks broke through fierce competition, reaching the No 1. spot winning the overall championship to share the Rs. 1 million prize pool.
They won an impressive four matches out of the 12 played during the Super Weekend, to top the leaderboard table with a total of 151 points.
The tournament favourites, Eastern Gladiators were placed 2nd with 134 total points, and despite showcasing an outstanding run during the playoffs, winning a quarter of all matches, they were unable to match the resurgence of the Southern Sharks.
The Western Warriors ranked 3rd with 130 total points.
Generating further excitement for the tournament, several Sri Lankan cricket celebrities joined the league as mentors for individual teams.
Their insight and exposure contributed greatly to team dynamics.
Sanath Jayasuriya, one of the greatest batsmen of his era, lent his expertise to the Southern Sharks.
Russel Arnold, Chaminda Vaas and T M Dilshan mentored the Northern Rangers, Rajarata Giants and Sabaragamuwa teams respectively.
Lasith Malinga and Angelo Mathews also came on board the tournament to inspire and guide the Esports athletes in the Kandurata Kings and Western Warriors.
SINGER Esports Premier 2021 League, Sri Lanka’s largest Esports tournament featured nine teams based on the country’s provinces namely the Eastern Gladiators, Kandurata Kings, Northern Rangers, Rajarata Giants, Sabaragamuwa Knights, Southern Sharks, Uva Bandits, Wayamba Raiders and Western Warriors.
The championship held through August to October attracted over 2,000 Esports athletes and was held completely remotely, with players joining from the safety of their homes.
