SLT MOBITEL Powered 37th Junior and Intermediate National Rowing Championship Concludes On A High Note

Businesscafe - The SLT-MOBITEL Powered 37th Junior and Intermediate National Rowing Championship concluded successfully on the 12th of March 2022, with many clubs and schools showcasing talents across various age groups and categories.

Conducted by the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka (ARASL), the national competition took place from 10th to 12th of March 2022 at the Diyawanna Rowing Centre, Ruwanpura with the participation of 12 schools and clubs in the junior category, and seven institutions and clubs registered for the intermediate category.

Past President of the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka and current Chairman of SLT Group, Rohan Fernando graced the occasion as the Chief Guest along with Dimuth Gunawardena, President, Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka (ARASL) and officials from the Rowing Association of Sri Lanka and SLT-MOBITEL.

Army women emerged champions and Ananda College bagged the boys’ title while Ladies’ College secured the ladies’ championship.

The event witnessed rigid competition, where schools such as Royal College, Asian International School (AIS) and Gateway College showcased dominant skills.

In the men’s events rowers from Air Force, Navy and Colombo Rowing Club did well to finish among the top three.

During the first day of the tournament, over 45 races were conducted while 31 final races were concluded on the second day.

The objective of the AARSL in conducting the Championship was to identify new talent and provide an opportunity for the current national pool of athletes to train for forthcoming international competitions.

With the interest in rowing among youth growing significantly each year, SLT-MOBITEL firmly believes that by partnering with such events, the organisation further expands its Environmental Social Governance (ESG) by encouraging capable and determined young athletes by enabling them to pursue their sporting dreams of putting Sri Lankan rowing on the international sporting arena.
