The National Mobile Service Provider Mobitel declared open the newly refurbished, state-of-the-art computer lab at Royal College in Polonnaruwa, which is another Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by the operator.

Mobitel refurbished the computer lab in its entirety while also providing new desktops and high speed internet connectivity and thereby setting up a fully-fledged and state-of-the-art computer lab for the students of the school.

To keep in line with its vision to make significant contributions to the further enhancement of ICT while improving the IT knowledge of children throughout Sri Lanka, Mobitel’s vision lies in making a comprehensive transformation in ICT for society at large as an ongoing CSR initiative.

The computer lab is equipped with new technology including WiFi and internet connectivity thereby affording school children the opportunity to experience information technology through the application of modern infrastructure with high speed internet.

The new facilities are expected to greatly contribute towards the students’ education and provide benefits from a new learning experience incorporated in their regular educational curriculum.

The lab is equipped with internet connectivity and Mobitel has provided the web content filtering solution for supervisory control and for the additional security of the students.

Students will have access to all necessary educational material via internet and school officials will also be given all essential tools needed to supervise and authorize the internet usage by the students.

Speaking at the ceremonial opening of the computer lab, Mobitel Chief Executive Officer Ranjith G. Rubasinghe stated, “We firmly believe that we have a responsibility to work towards reducing the gap in the digital divide in our society.

It is essential to provide access and new opportunities for all levels in society to increase their familiarity with ICT. ICT knowledge is now an integral part of the education curriculum.

The cost of setting up ICT infrastructure is quite high, yet it is an important investment for the future of the country.

Mobitel is in the forefront of working towards the country’s vision to increase the IT knowledge of the people, and the state-of-the-art computer lab that we have handed over today is a part of that effort. We earnestly request the school to make maximum use of the facilities and maintain them for future use as well.”
