HNB fortifies IDH medical stores against fire outbreaks with donation of extinguishers

Joining corporates in stepping up their efforts to fortify essential public health services Sri Lanka's leading private sector bank HNB PLC, donated 68 fire extinguishers to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) yesterday.

The initiative allows HNB to better equip the hospital's medical stores against any outbreak of fire while playing a supporting role at a time of global and national crisis in combatting the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.


The leading private sector bank further pledged to continue supporting the IDH and its frontline medical staff in this ongoing battle to contain the virus.


HNB Chairman Dinesh Weerakkody, Chief Operating Officer Dilshan Rodrigo, Chief Transformation Officer Chiranthi Cooray, Senior Manager- Engineering Roshan Fernando and Officer in Charge of Sustainability Shanel Perera presented 34 water and CO2 fire extinguishers to hospital.


"We at HNB feel that we must do our part in supporting the healthcare sector in this critical time and we are happy to help gear up the hospital with essential equipment.


We want to take this opportunity to convey our gratitude to the frontline medical staff and healthcare heroes, working tirelessly each day, and pledge to support them by any means possible to deal with a crisis of this scale and nature," HNB Chairman Dinesh Weerakkody said.


IDH Director Dr. Hasitha Attanayake, Epidemiology/IDH Consultant Physician Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, Health Ministry official Dr. Hasitha Tissera and IDH Medical Officer Planning Dr. Azad Samad were present at the occasion.
