The social network has partnered with audio-streaming site, Sound Cloud, and iTunes, to allow users to listen to content directly from Twitter, while browsing.
Having just launched the 'Promoted Video' scheme in August, users will now be able to listen to ‘Audio Card’ content as Twitter diversifies its service to accommodate a wider range of media formats.
The service will be used to share soundbites, podcasts and music singles with Coldplay, Olly Murs, David Guetta and more set to provide exclusive content, Additionally, the White House, the BBC and the Washington Post are also signed up.
Richard Slatter, product manager at Twitter, said in a statement: “With a single tap, the Twitter Audio Card lets you discover and listen to audio directly in your timeline on both iOS and Android devices.
“Throughout your listening experience, you can dock the Audio Card and keep listening as you continue to browse inside the Twitter app.”
The micro-blogging site has claimed it will be looking to expand its Audio Card partners in the coming months as the tool grows in popularity.
New artists and participants will be announced through the existing TwitterMusicUK handle.
