Mobitel succeeds at e-Swabhimani 2014 Awards for ICT innovation

The National Mobile Service Provider Mobitel won three esteemed awards at the recent ‘e-Swabhimani 2014 Awards’, the prestigious national awards that gives recognition for the best e-content and innovative ICT applications in the country.

Mobitel received recognition for showcasing innovation in e-content and the use of its mobile platform as a powerful medium of exchange. Mobitel triumphed in the m-Content category for ‘Doc Call’, the service through which customers could receive initial medical advice from doctors affiliated to the Sri Lanka Medical Association.

Mobitel was also adjudged the winner of the e-Health and Environment category for ‘mChannelling’, Mobitel’s healthcare arm that has partnered with government hospitals to allow patients the convenience of channeling physicians, and to receive information with regard to appointments via SMS.


Mobitel received a special Merit Award for its school attendance monitoring electronic card system ‘iCard’ under the e-Science and Technology category.

Launched in 2009 and organised by the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), the ‘e-Swabhimani Awards’ encourages the design and development of innovative applications that create an influential impact on local society.


Mobitel’s winning entries showcased the organisation’s foresight to provide pioneering services for the benefit of Mobitel customers and its relevance to the country’s journey towards e-development.

Commenting on the accolades received at the e-Swabhimani Awards, Mobitel Senior General Manager Marketing, Nalin Perera said, “As the National Mobile Service Provider, and a pioneer in the field of information communication technology, these awards give recognition to the organisation’s talent in creating and delivering innovative digital technology and services.


We have already laid out plans to initiate several new services which too will be of great benefit to our customers.”
