Sysco LABS Driving a Culture of Personal Achievement

Businesscafe - Sysco LABS associates have triumphed in multiple competitions held globally and in Sri Lanka.

Adding to the company’s achievers in 2022 was Chamil Diluksha, who was a part of the ‘Nana Shilpa’ team that won runners-up at the ‘Microsoft Imagine Cup World Championships’ held in May 2022.

Chamil and his team developed a mobile application system for screening and refinement of dyscalculia and dysgraphia learning disabilities in primary school students using localized language, incorporating modern machine learning and deep learning techniques bringing honor to Sri Lanka at this prestigious ceremony.

As the captive innovation center for Sysco – the world’s largest foodservice company, Sysco LABS actively encourages its associates to think differently and pursue their passions, at work and beyond.

Chamil together with Thanuja Chamika and Imal Kumarage were also bronze and merit award winners at the National ICT Awards 2021 organized by the British Computer Society of Sri Lanka.

Earlier in the year, Niruban Satchithanandakumar won Gold at the Montreaux Golden Awards '22, in the ADC Young Ones - Shortlist 2022 at an Ideathon conducted by the Miami Ad School (M.AD) Sri Lanka & Maldives, a branch of the world's most awarded creative school, while Pabasari Jayasundera was recognized with the coveted ‘Top Dog’ award at M.AD Sri Lanka & Maldives’ inaugural graduation event for thinkers and innovators who completed its Social Media Bootcamp.

Speaking about driving a culture of personal achievement, Rasika Karunatilake, General Manager, Sysco LABS explained,

“We aim to be bold by leading change instead of simply facilitating it. We strive to make the lives of our employees more meaningful by encouraging work-life balance.

We do not only focus on the role that someone must accomplish, but we also tap into their inner capabilities and support them in pursuing any passions and activities that will make the world a better place.”

In 2021, Sysco LABS associate Divyani Rajapaksha was a part of the team that won the ‘Young Innovators’ category at WSA Global’s prestigious World Summit Awards in 2021.

This was in addition to Kolitha Dasanayaka receiving the ‘Best Performance Award’ in the field of Computer Systems & Network Engineering for outstanding academic performance at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology’s annual convocation.

These achievements are testament to the supportive, encouraging, and empowering culture sustained at Sysco LABS, with the company remaining true to its purpose of ‘connecting the world to share food and care for one another’.

By encouraging work-life harmony among associates, Sysco LABS is able to cultivate engaged, passionate, and happy associates who bring their best selves to work every day.
