Little, an entrepreneur and former RTE journalist, will be based in Twitter's Dublin office and is due to start in early December.
His appointment follows on from recent moves by the company to strengthen its media credentials through a number of partnerships with news platforms.
The 47 year-old Dubliner made the announcement on Twitter this morning (10 November).
He will report to Twitter’s vice president of social media, Katie Jacobs Stanton.
Stanton was "ecstatic" to have Little on board and said "He brings experience, passion & a lovely Irish accent".
The Irish journalist sold Storyful to News Corp for £15m in December 2013 and left in June after just 18 months saying it’s best to “quit while you’re ahead”.
Little's addition to the company will help drive forward its attempts to make up lost ground by focusing its efforts on strengthening the service as a media platform.
Recent partnerships with CBS News, CNN and Fox News are early signs of the new direction the company is going in.
