Oman Air Celebrates Five Years of Success in Sri Lanka

The national airline of the Sultanate of Oman, Oman Air recently celebrated five years of successful operations in Sri Lanka.

The Oman Air team celebrated its fifth anniversary by hosting an exclusive cocktail event and dinner at Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo.

The event was attended by His Excellency Al Sheikh Jumah Hamdan Hasan Al Shehhi Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Sri Lanka, Diplomats of other Foreign Missions, Government Officials, Travel Partners, and Customers who came together to commemorate Oman Air’s five years of success in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka was the 32nd destination Oman Air expanded to in its network of 45 destinations. In Sri Lanka, Oman Air constantly engages with customers through promotions and events such as the Oman Air Golf Classic, which takes place annually and brings over 100 golfers together from Sri Lanka, Australia and the Middle East.


The thrilling tournament is hosted over two days in the historic city of Kandy and the grand prize of an Oman Air voucher worth Rs. 100,000 is gifted to the winner each year.


This year, Oman Air in Sri Lanka also hosted the Oman Air Asia Pacific Regional Conference, bringing together top performing agents and partners from across the region. The conference also helped to promote Sri Lanka as a leading travel destination in the region, with a diverse and exciting tourism offering.

Oman Air’s first award of the year was received in recognition of the exceptional contribution the airline has made to sporting achievement in the Sultanate.


Oman Air’s onboard products came into the spotlight, with the airline winning a Gold Award for ‘Best First Class Male Amenity Bag’ at the TravelPlus Airline Amenity Bag Awards.

Oman Air was recently recognized as the ‘Best Business Class Airline, Middle East’ and the ‘Best Economy Class Airline, Middle East’ at the World Travel Awards in 2014. The airline also received three titles at the 8th Oman web awards, for the e-commerce, food & beverages and services categories.


Oman Air also received the ‘Best Arab Air Carrier’ award at the Arab Tourism Media Awards and won one category and placed second and third in two others categories at the Farnborough Air Show which is organized by Skytrax, an independent airline quality expert.


Adding to its list of potential accolades, Oman Air was shortlisted in the ‘Airline of the Year’ category at the TTG Travel Awards and BMI Selling Travel shortlisted the carrier in the ‘Airline to the Middle East’ category at the Travel Agents Choice Awards.


The results of both awards programmes will be announced later in the year. The airline was also included in Swiss business magazine Bilanz’s list of the world’s best 25 airlines 2014. The airline also received the Readers’ Choice Award at the highly acclaimed Saveur’s Culinary Travel Awards.
