Municipality Solid Waste to Energy - green solution in Sri Lanka enters final stage

The Municipal Solid Waste to Energy pilot project in Sri Lanka inaugurated its construction for the 3rd and final stage of the three phase plan at Kaburupitiya – Matara recently.

The inauguration was held for the technological part for the 3rd phase of the project under the patronage of Chairman CEA Mr. D. W. Prathapasinghe with Mr. Michael Quyn and Mr. Amindra Wimalasena - Chairman and Managing Director of Biogreencycle (Pvt) Ltd.

The Municipality Solid Waste to energy pilot project kicked off with the foundation stone laying ceremony held in Kaburupitiya – Matara last August, in the presence of Hon. Minister Dullas Alahapperuma – Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills development, Chairman CEA Mr. D. W. Prathapasinghe, the Hon Mayor of Matara along with other ministers, MP’s and other official dignitaries together with the management of Biogreencycle (Pvt) Ltd.

Biogreenycle (Pvt) Ltd. together with the Central Environmental Authority and the Matara Municipal council have come together in providing a solution to the country’s ever growing waste problem with the pilot plant that is been built in Kaburupitiya – Matara in collaboration of “Deyata Kirula” to be held in 2015.

“This is part of a National Plan to eradicate the ever growing municipality solid waste issue and convert it into a source of renewable energy that would reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses and help the country in its growth and creating a greener tomorrow”, said Michael Quyn – Chairman of Biogreencycle (Pvt) Ltd. the company responsible for providing the Anaerobic digestion process of waste to energy through this pilot in Sri Lanka.

With the inauguration of the 3rd and final phase of the plant it signifies the fact that the national and local authorities are headed towards providing an optimistic greener solution and have given the country a self-sustaining solution that will not only help eradicate the massive lands filled with dirt but also create a greener Sri Lanka.
